Brisk Trade At Keeneland November Book 2 Opener

by Jessica Martini & Christie DeBernardis LEXINGTON, KY -- The momentum from Monday's opening session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale continued into the first session of Book 2 Tuesday in Lexington with a pair of mares bringing seven figures. "I would describe it as a solid day," said Keeneland President and CEO Shannon Arvin. "Overall, we are very happy with the gross, very happy with the median and average being up over last year." During Tuesday's session, 197 horses sold for $35,073,000. The average of $178,036 was up...

Will Flightline Run Next Year? Farish Weighs In

While a decision regarding whether or not superstar Flightline (Tapit) will buck industry trends and return to the races next year as a 5-year-old will not be made until after the Breeders' Cup, co-owner Bill Farish said he is open to the idea of bringing the horse back for a 2023 campaign. Farish is just one of five owners, but his opinion could carry more weight than that of his partners. Farish is the general manager of Lane's End Farm, where Flightline will stand at stud after his racing career...

Sadler on Flightline: 'The History is Yet to be Written'

It's been a long time since I have been up at `dark thirty', but here I find myself happily strolling into Santa Anita Park at 4:30 in the morning--a far cry from nearly 10 years ago when I was galloping horses and would find myself running late whilst popping an Altoid and three Advil to quell the night-before activities. But here I am. Why? Because I asked John Sadler for a Flightline (Tapit) interview and of course, Flightline trains at 5 a.m. After a morning of carrots, coffee, and horses,...

Malibu Moon Filly Cruises to Rising Stardom at Spa

Sophomore filly More Moonshine (Malibu Moon) sat off a quick pace and skipped home in the muddy stretch to earn the 'TDN Rising Star' nod for an impressive belated debut Sunday at Saratoga. Having been very close to an unveiling here last year only to suffer a setback, the dark bay showed an upbeat local tab for a barn that can win with a firster but doesn't often get bet like it, and was let go at 6-1. Away in good order, the Summer Wind Equine homebred sat in a...

Summer Wind Homebred A No-Brainer 'Rising Star'

It was a stroll in the park for Summer Wind Equine's Triple Tap (Tapit), who was really only asked to run the final 150 yards en route to becoming a new 'TDN Rising Star' Saturday at Santa Anita. The homebred left the outside stall in a scratched-down field of four without incident and was content to take back to sit in second, as the filly Eyes Open (Street Sense) went very easily on the engine through an opening quarter in just :23.31. Triple Tap was camped on the filly's flank...
