MHBA Creates Aftercare Account for Maryland-Breds

The Maryland Horse Breeders Association (MHBA) has announced the creation of an aftercare account that will direct funds to support Maryland-bred racehorses as they are retired and preparing for their second career. The account, called BackStop, will be funded by extracting a $25 fee from each Maryland-bred registration submitted. BackStop funds will not replace or relieve the responsibility of the owner, breeder or trainer to arrange for aftercare for their retirees. Treo Eile Website Launches

Treo Eile, an Irish non-profit assisting racehorse trainers and owners who wish to rehome and retrain their racehorses after racing, launched their website on Feb. 20. The programme aims to: connect racehorse owners with retrainers/new owners support ex-racehorses with a thoroughbred event program promote the versatility of the ex-racehorse The Treo Eile website is a matchmaking tool for the ex-racehorse and potential new owner, with retiring racehorses posted to Treo Eile's listings section.
