In a press release issued July 14, the U.S. Marshall's Service reported that 18-year-old jockey Bryson Butterfly was arrested Thursday for allegedly being involved in a murder that took place Apr. 23 in Baltimore County. Butterfly was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Mountain State Fugitive Task Force (MSFTF), in Harpers Ferry, WV near Charles Town Racetrack. He had ridden the night before at Penn National. The Pennsylvania Horse Breeders Association released its 2023 stakes schedule for locally bred horses they said on Thursday. The list includes 29 stakes to be run at state-wide tracks throughout the year, with seven slated for Pennsylvania-sired and bred runners. The Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission reported Monday on the progress of its Equine Safety and Welfare Plan, a list of tangible steps intended to increase protections for horses racing at Pennsylvania's six tracks.
