Former Derby Favourite Luxembourg To Return In Royal Whip

The Coolmore partners' Luxembourg (Ire) (Camelot {GB}), a one-time G1 Cazoo Derby favourite until meeting with a setback in the spring, will reappear in the G3 Royal Whip S., according to trainer Aidan O'Brien. Held at the Curragh on Aug. 13, the 10-furlong event will be the starting point for the G1 Vertem Futurity Trophy S. and G2 Beresford S. hero. If all goes well in the Royal Whip, a start in the Sept. 10 G1 Irish Champion S. is also possible for the 3-year-old colt later in the season....

Observations: Luxembourg's Brother on Show at Killarney

5.15 Killarney, Mdn, €15,000, 2yo, 8f 20yT HIAWATHA (IRE) (Camelot {GB}), Ballydoyle's chosen one as he debuts in the opener to this beautiful venue's week-long July Festival, is a rare commodity as a full-brother to the stable's G1 Futurity Trophy and G2 Beresford S. hero Luxembourg (Ire) who made a successful racecourse bow at this meeting 12 months ago and has been a notable absentee from the top action since sustaining an injury after his 2000 Guineas third. The top-priced colt at last year's Goffs Orby at €1.2million, the March-foaled...

Guineas Glory For Coroebus

A Godolphin-Charlie Appleby one-two in Saturday's G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket seemed highly plausible, but as the dust settled on the sun-blessed Rowley Mile it was Coroebus (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) and not Native Trail (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) who held the Moulton Paddocks bragging rights. Despite arriving here in his stablemate's shadow, the G3 Autumn S. winner received due respect and support at 5-1 attempting to navigate from the one draw on the far side. As the 5-4 favourite charged down the other wing with William Buick animated, Coroebus...

The Return Of The Native

Since Charlie Appleby took up the mantle at Moulton Paddocks in 2013, Godolphin's fortunes on British soil have been back on the rise and there is no greater exponent of that trend than Saturday's G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas leading light Native Trail (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}). The way Appleby's runners have been sweeping up the Spring's black-type contests so far this term is reminiscent of the days when Henry Cecil's Warren Place was at its height and provides further evidence that Ballydoyle has a heavyweight of mutual prowess to trade blows...

Native Trail To Face 14 In The Guineas

Charlie Appleby will have to be sharp-eyed on Saturday after the draw for Newmarket's G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas saw his high-class pair Native Trail (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) and Coroebus (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) on opposite sides of the track. William Buick's mount, the G1 Vincent O'Brien National S. and G1 Dewhurst S.-winning unbeaten champion juvenile Native Trail, was handed 15 of 15 while his G3 Autumn S.-winning stablemate is in one. Their handler was unconcerned about the draw on Thursday. "With the stalls in the centre of the track, being drawn 15...

Native Trail Heads 19 in 2000 Guineas

Following Monday's confirmation stage, Godolphin's Native Trail (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) appears to be the one to beat among 19 colts in Saturday's G1 Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. Undefeated in five career starts, the recent G3 Craven S. winner is odds-on with some bookmakers to provide trainer Charlie Appleby with a first victory in the Rowley Mile Classic. Appleby will also be represented by Coroebus (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), who will be ridden by James Doyle. Native Trail and Coroebus are among the top two choices for Saturday's feature in...

O'Brien Charts Plans for Classic Hopefuls

Aidan O'Brien outlined plans after several members of his team galloped Saturday, chief among them G1 Futurity Trophy winner Luxembourg (Ire) (Camelot {GB}), undefeated in three starts at two, and MGSW Point Lonsdale (Ire) (Australia {GB}), who was last seen finishing second in the G1 Goffs Vincent O'Brien National last September. Campaigned by Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Westerberg, the pair are likely to reappear in the Apr. 30 G1 Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. "Luxembourg was in the first lot and everything went very well," said...

Camelot's Luxembourg In Control In The Futurity Trophy

Backed down to 4-6 favouritism as the heavy-hitters came out to play on Saturday, the new beau of Ballydoyle Luxembourg (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) gave his supporters a comfortable ride in Saturday's G1 Vertem Futurity Trophy at Doncaster to head into winter quarters one of the leading members of his generation. Not the quicksilver he was when taking The Curragh's G2 Beresford S. on good going Sept. 25, the Westerberg colour-bearer instead moved through this soft-ground renewal with straightforward ease as Ryan Moore sought to collect without asking a serious question....

Luxembourg Possible For Futurity

Saturday's G2 Beresford S. hero Luxembourg (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) is under consideration for the G1 Vertem Futurity Trophy at Doncaster on Oct. 23. A winner on debut at Killarney for Westerberg, Mrs. J. Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith on July 14, the bay also holds an entry in the Oct. 9 G1 Darley Dewhurst S. at Newmarket. O'Brien said, "He's a lovely horse and was showing loads before he went to Killarney. He came forward every week after that, and it was a lovely second stage for him. "The...

Camelot's Luxembourg Impressive In The Beresford

Aidan O'Brien's crop of juveniles had looked short of the usual standard up to Saturday, but five minutes of action across Newmarket and The Curragh changed the conversation with the hugely exciting Luxembourg (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) doing his bit for Ballydoyle in the G2 Alan Smurfit Memorial Beresford S. Not seen since winning in style on debut in a conditions event over this mile trip at Killarney July 14, the imposing Westerberg-Coolmore representative was the subject of heavy support into 8-13 favouritism for this prize Aidan O'Brien had already won...
