Richard Kent's Mickley Stud will welcome the G2 Flying Childers S. winner Ubettabelieveit (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}--Ladylishandra {Ire}, by Mujadil) to its stallion ranks for the 2022 season. Trained by Nigel Tinkler for owner Martin Webb, Ubettabelieveit won on his second start at two and followed that up with victory in the Listed National S. at Sandown. Dropping back to five furlongs after failing to see out the six in the G2 Gimcrack S., he then won the Flying Childers in a tight finish with subsequent Group 2 winner Sacred (Blame)....

Choice Offerings From Owenstown Stud

John Tuthill wouldn't be the type to shout from the rooftops about the racetrack successes of the graduates of his Owenstown Stud. But, then again, he doesn't have to--the horses have done the talking themselves. From a band of about 15 broodmares of his own, Tuthill bred two winners of the G1 Queen Elizabeth S. in the space of five years: Excelebration (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) in the Derrick Smith silks in 2012 and the filly Persuasive (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) for Cheveley Park Stud in 2017. He also...

Premier Sale Ends On A High

DONCASTER, UK--Any fears that a reduced catalogue and lack of high-end Maktoum participation could lead to a soft market at the Goffs UK Premier Sale were firmly quashed as the auction came to a close on Wednesday in Doncaster with a set of results that compared favourably with the pre-Covid era. At 366 lots, Goffs UK compiled a catalogue that was 8.5% smaller than last year. Yet in a testament to the quality of horse on offer, not to mention the appetite of buyers on the ground, the sale returned...

Galileo: The Hardest Of Acts To Follow

In a temporarily upside-down world, a comforting air of normality can be found in a perusal of the end-of-year stallion tables. To Benjamin Franklin's certainties of death and taxes, in this smaller world we can add just about the only sure thing in racing and bloodstock: Galileo (Ire) is champion sire. Perhaps the greatest compliment that can be paid to the King of Tipperary is the fact that, even at his home at Coolmore, the operation which naturally has free-flowing access to the supersire via some of the best mares...

Cup Contender Justifies Tinkler's Belief

LEXINGTON, KY-With the breeze-up sales having been thrown into turmoil in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic this spring, Yorkshire trainer Nigel Tinkler found himself with an important decision in his hands. Breeze-up consignors Roger Marley and John Cullinan, like others in the sector, had begun offering some of their pinhooks privately in an effort to soften the financial blows of the global economic crisis, and Tinkler was offered his choice of colts by Kodiac (GB) and Dandy Man (Ire) for his clients Martin and Lisa Webb. "We had the...

Churchill Filly Leads SGA Yearling Sale

Italy's Societa Gestione Aste held its one-day select yearling sale in Milan on Saturday, with two fillies bringing six figures. The average and median had both experienced huge jumps last year to €29,193 and €18,000, respectively. A first-crop...

Excelebration Colt Tops Guineas Sale

NEWMARKET, UK—Alan King may be best known for his exploits with top-class jumpers such as Voy Por Ustedes (Fr) and My Way De Solzen (Fr) but he has been making an increasingly notable impact on the Flat scene in recent years. His 2020 Royal Ascot treble is undoubtedly the highlight of his diversification to date and, with the assistance of his regular agent Anthony Bromley, he added another four Flat-bred horses to his string on Wednesday, including the day's top lot, a colt by Excelebration (Ire). "He was our favourite...

Nando Parrado Given Morny Target

Nando Parrado (GB) (Kodiac {GB}), who became the highest-priced winner in Royal Ascot history when winning last week's G2 Norfolk S. at odds of 150-1, will target the G1 Prix Morny at Deauville on Aug. 23. "We're looking towards that. That would be our plans and thoughts at this stage," said trainer Clive Cox. "It would be a logical step from here." Cox said Marie McCartan's colt didn't handle Newmarket's undulations when fifth on debut on June 4, and thus was not surprised by the bay's improvement in the Norfolk....
