Louisiana Commission Sides with Broberg in CDI Exclusion Dispute

The Louisiana State Racing Commission (LSRC) unanimously passed a motion Tuesday that owner and trainer Karl Broberg believes will allow him to race horses at the upcoming Fair Grounds meet despite an exclusion order imposed last month by that track's corporate owner, Churchill Downs Inc. (CDI). "I am allowed to enter and run at the Fair Grounds," Broberg told TDN hours after the LSRC ruled that the private-property exclusion by CDI doesn't carry the same reciprocity as a ruling issued by a board of stewards or state racing commission. Louisiana Commission Stonewalls Broberg Even After False-Positive Exoneration

One day after learning he had been exonerated by split-sample test results that negated an original "ridiculous" finding of three serious drug violations in a single mare who won a Nov. 24 race at Delta Downs, trainer Karl Broberg told TDN that Louisiana State Racing Commission (LSRC) officials turned down his offer to have the mare's hair tested while the case was being adjudicated to prove that no Class 1 and 2 drugs were in the system of Tiz One Fee (Tiz the One). Broberg also said the LSRC has...

Wednesday, Sinatra joined the TDN Writers' Room presented by Keeneland as the Green Group Guest of the Week to discuss an array...

Karl Broberg got off to a quick start at Remington Park, winning the opening night feature, the $75,000 Governor's Cup S., with Hunka Burning Love (Into Mischief). But Broberg is resigned to the fact that there won't be many more winners for his stable at the Oklahoma track. A mainstay at Remington throughout his career, Broberg was denied stalls at the meet which opened Friday, and he says he's yet to get a reasonable explanation as to why. "I really wish I knew the answer," Broberg said. "It was what...

With Lone Star Park officials having little to say about the abrupt shut down of racing after Sunday's first race, it was unclear when racing would resume at the Dallas area track or if the meet will be canceled. Citing a conversation with racing secretary Tim Williams, the Daily Racing Form reported Monday that the three days of racing scheduled for this week would not be held. Lone Star's decision to stop racing may be related to the news that jockey Gerard Melancon has tested positive for the coronavirus. A...

Karl Broberg
