It will be exactly 23 years ago on Sunday- August 23, 1997. Julie Krone vividly, and affectionately, recalls the day that she and Tale of the Cat took the GII King's Bishop S. "We had an inside post that day, and there were some great sprinters," Krone recounted. "It was a really tough field, but Tale of the Cat literally had wings. Julie Krone is back at Monmouth Park; this time, with a new job: jockey agent. She will represent Ferrin Peterson, a veterinarian with dreams of becoming the next Julie Krone.

Julie Krone remembers the summer of 2003 as one of her favorite seasons in racing. After coming out of a three-year retirement in November of 2002, it was the summer where she and Candy Ride (Arg) battled with Jerry Bailey and Medaglia d'Oro in the GI Pacific Classic S., when her mount crossed the wire three lengths in front. Later that year, she would go on to ride Halfbridled (Unbridled) to victory in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, becoming the first woman jockey to win a Breeders' Cup race. But...

She knew her horse didn't have a chance in the 1970 Kentucky Derby and so did everyone else, but, still, Diane Crump couldn't avoid the spotlight as the race approached. At least she was used to it. Fifteen months earlier, Crump became the first female to ride in a pari-mutuel race. Now, she was set to make history again, as the first female to ride in the Kentucky Derby.
