After being bred to Claiborne stallion Runhappy, Volatile Vickie was killed by lightning last summer the day she arrived at the farm owned by the mare's owner, Peter Rosbeck. The breeding season was sold in the annual Jockeys and Jeans stallion season sale to benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund and there arose a disagreement involving the sale's company hired by the PDJF that concerned a breed back being part of the non-guaranteed season sale. Irad Ortiz Promotion Raises $22,000 for PDJF

Jockeys and Jeans, in conjunction with Uncle Louie G's Italian Ices, an onsite Gulfstream Park vendor, raised over $22,000 for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund Saturday March 13 through sales of the masked Irad Ortiz bobbleheads at the track and online. Ortiz personally signed hundreds of the bobbleheads there, and Klaravich Stables, whose colors the bobblehead wears, made a substantial donation. Jockeys & Jeans Raises $67,600 in Stallion Season Sale

For the first time, the annual Jockeys and Jeans auction raised funds for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund, including Quarter Horse Industry stallions. Former nine-time Champion Jockey G.R. Carter spearheaded the effort, enlisting Quarter Horse breeders, who spent $31,500 for breeding seasons, while Thoroughbred stallion season buyers paid $36,100. Jockeys and Jeans Great American Stallion Season Sale to Benefit PDJF

The Jockeys and Jeans Great American Stallion Season Sale will once again benefit the PDJF and this year will offer both Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse stallions. The auction begins Jan. 29 at 9 a.m. and ends Feb. 1 at 5 p.m on Starquine.com. A season preview will be available Jan. 28. All seasons sold, their buyers and their prices are private. All seasons are non-guaranteed and donors have the option of including a breed-back the following year if the buyer's mare does not get in foal on first cover.

Jockeys and Jeans Stallion Season Sale a Success

Approximately $70,000 was raised by the Jockeys and Jeans Stallion Season Sale for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF), double its 2019 revenues, the organization announced Monday. Over 20 stallion seasons were sold, including a season to Claiborne Farm's Runhappy (Super Saver), which topped proceedings at $25,000.
