Dawn Approach's Poetic Flare Dominant In the St James's Palace

They all assembled for another crack at Jim Bolger's workaholic Poetic Flare (Ire) (Dawn Approach {Ire}) in Tuesday's G1 St James's Palace S., but all they received was a more resounding beating as the wonder of Coolcullen spreadeagled a seemingly open-looking renewal of the mile contest. Bouncing out of Europe's three premier Guineas as if they were mere pipe-openers, the homebred with as extraordinary a make-up as the man who sculpted his presence duly ripped apart this race to land what look in hindsight to be excessively generous odds of...

IHRB Issues Strong Anti-Doping Statement

Following Irish trainer Jim Bolger voicing his concerns on doping in Irish racing this past weekend, a strong statement against doping was issued by the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board on Monday evening. The statement read: "Following comments made recently, the IHRB can once again stress there is a zero-tolerance approach to doping in Irish racing and we operate to the highest level using LGC Laboratories in Newmarket, who are one of five International Federation Horseracing Authorities certified laboratories in the world, and the same laboratory used by the British Horseracing...

Dynamite On The Downs

It has become custom for some to yearn for the glory days of the Epsom Derby, when the blue riband of the English turf sat proud on its Wednesday slot dominating the consciousness of the London area. While it has fallen some way short of its past standard as a national treasure, one of the factors in its relative demise has been lack of competition but this year's Cazoo-sponsored renewal stands up on that score at least. In fact, with all its converging plots there has not been as exciting...

The Derby Approach

There are stallions with far bigger reputations who will never achieve what New Approach (Ire) has in his stud career. Yet somehow the horse who was champion 2-year-old, became the first Derby winner for Galileo (Ire), and was the joint-highest rated horse in the world in 2008 remains somewhat under-appreciated. It is all the more remarkable--and disappointing--given the hugely promising start made by New Approach early in his tenure at Dalham Hall Stud.  Sit through any breeze-up sale and you will regularly hear the auctioneer espousing the Royal Ascot potential...

The Weekly Wrap: Classics, Classics Everywhere

It seems harsh, when the British and Irish Classics have so far have been split two apiece between Jim Bolger and Aidan O'Brien, to suggest that this season is all about Bolger. But, let's face it, it is.  Plenty has been written about Poetic Flare (Ire) (Dawn Approach {Ire}) and Mac Swiney (Ire) (New Approach {Ire}) and the fact that both sides of their families are very much ingrained in the Bolger breeding and training academy. What is equally admirable, especially in the case of Mac Swiney, is the fact...

Poetic Flare, Mother Earth Chase Classic Doubles

Jim Bolger has some unfinished business to take care of on Sunday, having gone agonisingly close to an unprecedented English-French-Irish Guineas treble in 2007 with Finsceal Beo (Ire) (Mr. Greeley). Denied by a head by Darjina (Fr) (Zamindar) in the second leg at ParisLongchamp, the "living legend" went on to add the Irish equivalent and it is a unique Guineas treble that is on the mind of the Coolcullen maestro once again in 2021. With an extra seven days than his brilliant filly had between the G1 2000 Guineas...

One-time G1 Cazoo Derby favourite High Definition (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who returned poor bloodwork prior to missing an intended start in the Listed Lingfield Derby Trial on Saturday, has been declared a starter in the G2 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Dante S. at York on Thursday.
