German Guineas Third Three Havanas Delivers Knockout Punch in Hamburg's Stuten Meile

Hamburg avoided a clash with Sunday's knockout phase of soccer's European Championships and its early-bird programme featured the €55,000 G3 Sparkasse Holstein Cup (Hamburger Stuten Meile) as the opening day highlight of the venue's G1 Deutsches Derby festival. This year's renewal of the one-mile staging post played host to a match-up of Classic distaffers, with last term's G1 Preis der Diana (German Oaks) third Sea The Lady (Fr) (Sea The Moon {Ger}) eyeballing this year's G2 German 1000 Guineas third Three Havanas (Ger) (Havana Grey {GB}--Three Ducks {GB}, by Diktat...

Samum's dam Sacarina (GB) (Old Vic {GB}) went on to produce, from repeat matings to Monsun, the G1 Preis der Diana winner Salve Regina (Ger), whose Classic success for Manfred and Edith Hellwig of Gestut Hony-Hof gave the Faust family of...

Ohlerweiherhof Living Derby Dream With Isfahan

SANKT WENDEL, Germany--Among the current batch of second-crop stallions in Europe, only two thus far have sired a Group 1 winner. The all-conquering Mehmas (Ire), last season's record-breaking champion freshman, has two, while the other name on the list may be less familiar to those outside Germany. Isafahan (Ger) (Lord Of England {Ger}), bred by his trainer Andreas Wohler, won the G1 Deutsches Derby of 2016, and five years later his first-crop Sisfahan (Fr), also chestnut and bearing the same green and pink colours of Darius Racing, emulated his father...

It hasn't been a bad year for Holger Faust's HFTB Agency, all things considered. Faust's involvement with the G1 Preis von Europa winner, who is catalogued as lot 182, is certainly not...

The Weekly Wrap: The Final Countdown?

Today's the day that trainers in Britain can make entries for the first race meeting to be staged in Britain since March 17. Never will there have been so much interest in a Class 6 handicap at Newcastle as there will be next Monday at 1pm when the gates ping back to deliver a long awaited resumption of activity. As we have seen in France and Germany with last-minute interventions and location changes, it is perhaps unwise to assume that racing will actually take place on Monday in Britain, but...

German HOTY Rubaiyat Set To Stake Classic Claim

Among the European nations, it may well be Germany that gets racing back up and running first, and two men who will be extra pleased to see it resume are Dr Stefan Oschmann and his bloodstock advisor Holger Faust. Through his Darius Racing operation, Oschmann is the owner of the 2019 Horse of the Year in Germany, the unbeaten Rubaiyat (Fr) (Areion {Ger}), who is now favourite for the G2 Mehl-Mulhens-Rennen (German 2000 Guineas). The colt, who beat his elders to the title after his faultless juvenile campaign which saw...
