Easy Pickings For Palace Pier In the Lockinge

Frankie Dettori could afford to be at his showboating best at Newbury on Saturday, with TDN Rising Star Palace Pier (GB) (Kingman {GB}) in imperious mood as he gave his evergreen rider the ideal big-race thrill in the G1 Al Shaqab Lockinge S. Hot property as the 1-2 favourite following his eight-length comeback success in the Apr. 23 G2 Sandown Mile, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum's G1 St James's Palace S. and G1 Prix Jacques le Marois hero travelled typically smoothly in the early stages despite ending up towards...

Highclere's Beach Beauty

The first chapter of the story of Palace Pier (GB) (Kingman {GB}) was written 20 years ago when John Warren bought the listed winner Miss d'Ouilly (Fr) (Bikala {GB}) from Jean-Luc Lagardere at the Tattersalls December Sale for 50,000gns. The Night Shift foal she was carrying at the time became known as Night Frolic (GB), and she has established her own important branch of an accomplished family at Highclere Stud.  For Palace Pier, the tale is far from complete. This season's champion miler will remain in training for 2021, but...

Dubawi Day As Book 1 Continues

By Emma Berry & Alayna Cullen NEWMARKET, UK—When the G1 Moyglare Stud S. winner Intricately (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) appeared in the December Mares' Sale of 2017, she was one of the leading lights at 1.7- million gns, and her first foal went a long way to recouping some of that investment on Wednesday. The colt by Dubawi (Ire) was one of seven yearlings by the sire bought by Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin operation through the first two days and the most expensive yearling of the second session at 1.1- million...

Palace Pier Overcomes In the Marois

Heavy ground must have played against TDN Rising Star Palace Pier (GB) (Kingman {GB}) in Sunday's G1 Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques le Marois, but such is the prowess of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum's unbeaten colossus that he duly overcame with a cosy success in one of the best renewals of Deauville's feature in recent times. Settled last early by an ever-confident Frankie Dettori, the 13-10 favourite who came to prominence in the June 20 G1 St James's Palace S. at Royal Ascot moved to Alpine Star...

Kingman's Palace Pier Best In the St James's Palace

Frankie Dettori ended Royal Ascot's crowd-free week on fire as he took the final day by storm, completing a big-race treble on the TDN Rising Star Palace Pier (GB) (Kingman {GB}) in a pulsating renewal of the G1 St James's Palace S. Making a sizeable leap to this level with even less to justify it than stablemate Lord North (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) had on Wednesday, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum's unbeaten colt of such promise proved well up to standard to provide further evidence of John Gosden's razor-sharp judgment....

Lethal Force's Golden Horde Powers to Commonwealth Cup Triumph

Strong and direct at two and just the same on this seasonal return, AlMohamediya Racing's Golden Horde (Ire) (Lethal Force {Ire}) was the main player on Royal Ascot Friday as he provided trainer Clive Cox and jockey Adam Kirby with yet another major sprint when making virtually all in the G1 Commonwealth Cup. Always at the head of the stand's-side group and in front overall before two out, the 5-1 shot whose sire captured the G1 Diamond Jubilee S. for this partnership here in 2013 kept digging in to beat...

Cable Bay Fast Out Of The Blocks

Cable Bay (Ire) entered stud with solid credentials, being a multiple group-winning son of Invincible Spirit (Ire), but it is safe to say that the Highclere Stud resident exceeded expectations with his first runners in 2019. Cable Bay finished last season ranked the second-leading first-season sire in Europe based on worldwide earnings, siring 28 winners of 38 races. His progeny to date include the multiple stakes winner Liberty Beach (GB) and Ropey Guest (GB), who despite still being a maiden was placed six times in stakes company last year. Meanwhile...
