Hassett: 'Get In The Game Is My Way Of Giving Back To People'

News that Johnny Hassett was diagnosed with cancer last year was met with widespread support and generosity in the bloodstock and racing world and now the man behind The Bloodstock Connection and more recently the Get In The Game Syndicate is hell-bent on giving back to those who supported him when he needed it most. So, how is he going to do it? By doing what he does best; sourcing good horses. This season, every yearling that Hassett sources for next year's breeze-ups will be offered up for sale in...

Orby Eclipses All Expectations As Kodiac Colt Shines

By Brian Sheerin and Emma Berry KILDARE, Ireland--Henry Beeby revealed that the figures recorded at this year's Orby Sale far exceeded his greatest expectations as, less than 24 hours after seeing the most expensive yearling offered at public auction in the States and Europe so far this year walk through the ring, the world-famous sales house recorded a whopping 24% rise in turnover with over €50 million traded in two days. Of the 231 yearlings offered on day two, 199 were sold for a total of €23,192,500, which represented an...

Beeby: 'Orby Is The One That Matters Most'

Tasked with identifying just one horse to look forward at the Orby Sale next week, Goffs Chief Executive Henry Beeby must have realised that he was in clover when rattling off progeny by sire sensations Dubawi (Ire), Frankel (GB) and Sea The Stars (Ire) but admitted that having the chance to offer 11 Galileos (Ire) was a particular boon ahead one of the most eagerly-anticipated yearling sales on earth.  Beeby also described himself as thrilled with the field of 2-year-olds the Goffs Million has attracted at the Curragh on Saturday...

Lightning Strikes Twice For Night Of Thunder At Doncaster

With another 60 yearlings standing out in the field at home in Westmeath, it was important for the team at Tally-Ho to begin the domestic sales season with a bang, and that's exactly what they did in sending out the top lot at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale--the Blandford Bloodstock-bought lot 278, a filly by Night Of Thunder (Ire).  Mark McStay went to £230,000 to secure a colt by the stallion [170] on Tuesday but it was Tally-Ho's first foal out of the five-time winner and listed-placed Thiswaycadeaux (Ire)...

Rockets At The Ready As Doncaster Set To Soar

Not since Elon Musk became infatuated with space has there been so many rockets assembled in the one place at any given time than at Doncaster ahead of the Premier Yearling Sale.  These particular starships have been bred to fly and, lurking among the 411 yearlings getting ready for takeoff at Goffs UK over the next few days could be the next Acclamation (GB), Dark Angel (Ire), Wootton Bassett (GB) or Tasleet (GB), all of whom are graduates of this sale.  Joe Foley knows a thing or two about rockets....

£1.2 Million Derby Second Set for Australia

LONDON, UK--There has been an awful lot of water under the bridge since Goffs UK last convened its London Sale in the royal parks, but somehow the bloodstock market has meanwhile stayed buoyantly afloat. In this country, demand for horses in training has remained a priceless lifeline, and the additional kudos of a Royal Ascot entry for the majority of lots elevated the bidding along with the thermometer as summer made a timely arrival in Kensington Palace Gardens. That proved equally true among those defending reserves and those managing to...

Stage Set For Inaugural Dubai Breeze-Up Sale

DUBAI, UAE--The interesting thing about talking to trainers from different parts of the world is that one man's gallop is another man's breeze, or indeed another woman's canter. Even within the specialised sector of the breeze-up sales, a Donny breezer may set a different pace to a Guineas breezer, often deliberately so, and for the inaugural Dubai Breeze-up Sale the focus is more on letting the 2-year-olds stretch out and show their moves over the two furlongs rather than rousting them along at a searing pace. Not one for the...
