Santa Anita Park, in conjunction with Golden Gate Fields, will host an online auction this holiday season to benefit the California Retirement Management Account (CARMA),an organization whose mission is to rehabilitate, retrain, and rehome Thoroughbred racehorses who have raced in California. Longtime Northern California racehorse trainer John F. "Mickey" Martin has passed away at the age of 63 after a lengthy illness, according to a press release from Golden Gate Fields. Martin, who saddled his first starter in 1984, trained Quarter Horses early in his career before transitioning to Thoroughbreds. He campaigned over 2,300 winners. Golden Gate Fields has tapped Steve Martinelli as their Racing Secretary through the end of the meet on June 12, 2022, replacing Patrick Mackey effective immediately. Martinelli has spent the last seven years as the Assistant Racing Secretary for Golden Gate Fields and is a veteran of the Northern California racing community, having spent the last 15 years working for the Albany track.

Officials at 1/ST, the consumer-facing brand of The Stronach Group--parent company of a portfolio of several California racetracks and/or training facilities--have issued a statement in the aftermath of the 90-day suspension handed down to trainer Bob Baffert.
