A'Ali Sister A Premier Sale Standout

Fledgling bloodstock agent Daniel Creighton took a swing at the top of the market at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale in 2016, spending £220,000 on behalf of owner John Dance on the sale's highest-priced filly. The transaction could hardly have worked out better, with that yearling going on to become the six-time Group 1 winner Laurens (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}). Creighton, along with his partner Josh Schwartz, are hoping to feature on the leaderboard at the same sale on Sept. 1 and 2 as sellers, with six yearlings set to...

Orby yearlings will ship into Doncaster on Sept. 27, following the Goffs Sportsman's Sale there on Sept. 24 and 25. Gutaifan's Fev Rover Earns Calvados Verdict

Richard Fahey trainee Fev Rover (Ire) (Gutaifan) was rewarded for runner-up finishes at Doncaster and Newmarket with a first black-type success upped to seven furlongs for Sandown's July 21 Listed Star S. and duly delivered as a short-odds selection for a second in Saturday's G2 Shadwell Prix du Calvados at Deauville. The April-foaled dark bay raced prominently, just behind the pacesetting Plainchant (Fr) (Gregorian {Ire}), for most of the straight seven-furlong trip. Rowed along to close on that rival passing the quarter-mile marker, the 6-5 favourite came under sterner urging...

Goffs Orby, Sportsman's Sales To Be Held In Doncaster

Goffs will stage its Orby and Sportsman's Sales at its Goffs UK sales complex in Doncaster this year rather than at Kildare Paddocks in Ireland. The dates for the sales have also been slightly adjusted; the Sportsman's Sale has been moved a week earlier to Sept. 24 and 25, while the Orby Sale will take place slightly later than planned on Oct. 1 and 2 to allow buyers who wish to attend Books 1 and 2 of Keeneland September to self-isolate for two weeks before traveling to Doncaster. The location...

Bated Breath's Cairn Gorm Takes the Cabourg

Unbeaten entering Sunday's G3 Darley Prix de Cabourg, Cairn Gorm (GB) (Bated Breath {GB}) kept his tally secure with a battling effort in the Deauville sunshine. Helped by the fact that his compatriot and the 11-10 market-leader Mighty Gurkha (Ire) (Sepoy {Aus}) was left at the start, the chestnut who was carrying the Hunscote Stud colours tracked the pace and was perfectly positioned before hitting the front passing the furlong pole. Asserting from there under Tom Marquand, the 17-5 second favourite scored by a length from Jubilation (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}),...

Grand Finale To Summer Sale

The third and final session of Goffs UK's Summer Sale on Wednesday provided the sale's highlight when The Million In Mind Partnership's unbeaten hurdler Grand Roi (Fr) (Spanish Moon) (lot 318) fetched £400,000 from Aidan O'Ryan and trainer Gordon Elliott. The pricetag is the second-highest ever achieved from the annual Million In Mind reduction. Another pair of horses in training shared the day's second-highest price of £82,000: Fabrique En France (Fr) (Yeats {Ire}) (lot 340A), who was supplemented off a point-to-point second at Ballycahane on July 3 and bought by...

A'Ali Bags the Sapphire

Forced to race on his own in Sunday's G2 Holden Plant Rentals Sapphire S. at The Curragh, Shaikh Duaij Al Khalifa's burgeoning sprinting star A'Ali (Ire) (Society Rock {Ire}) was admirably uncomplicated as he secured a fifth pattern-race success. Coming here on the back of a first 3-year-old success in a competitive renewal of the July 5 G3 Sandown Sprint S., the even-money favourite was detached from the main field early and out on a limb but was fortunately able to benefit from the guile and confidence of Colin Keane....

A two week gap between sales in the UK and Ireland has been agreed to give adequate time for Irish vendors to return from England and quarantine before they head to Kildare for the Goffs Land Rover Sale and then to the Tattersalls Ireland Derby...

Arqana, Goffs UK Teamwork Brings Market Relief

DONCASTER, UK-- They say good things come to those who wait and few people in the bloodstock world have had a more anxious wait for action this spring than the European breeze-up consignors, who have seen their regular sales slots pushed back by at least two months in a world sent awry by the COVID-19 pandemic. A collectively large sigh of relief was heard on Wednesday as first Goffs UK then Arqana posted results far exceeding most expectations.  The words 'resilience' and 'extraordinary' were used freely by vendors and buyers...

Mission Accomplished As Goffs UK Praised For Initiative

DONCASTER, UK--There is little doubt that the decision to hold the Goffs UK and Arqana Breeze-up Sales in the same place on the same day has reaped dividends for vendors and the sales companies alike. In times of trouble, anything that can make life a little easier for those longing for some return to normal business practices has to be applauded. As emphasised by bloodstock agent Richard Brown after he signed for an American Pharoah colt at £175,000, the international resale market remains reassuringly recession-proof, which in turn has emboldened...
