Notable Speech Expected to Deliver at Goodwood after Royal Ascot Disappointment

Charlie Appleby has issued a positive bulletin on Notable Speech (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) as the Classic winner continues his preparation for the G1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood on Wednesday, July 31. The impressive 2,000 Guineas scorer ran no sort of race when last seen forfeiting his unbeaten record in the G1 St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, ultimately finishing seventh of eight runners in a race won by the Newmarket runner-up, Rosallion (Ire) (Blue Point {Ire}). That performance was simply too bad to be true according to Appleby, who...

Dubawi's TDN Rising Star Ancient Truth Wins the Superlative

It was a case of business as usual at Newmarket on Saturday with Charlie Appleby saddling his fifth G2 Superlative Stakes winner in TDN Rising Star Ancient Truth (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}--Beyond Reason {Ire}, by Australia {GB}). Having won on debut over six furlongs on the Rowley Mile in May and over this seven-furlong trip and course last month, the 4-6 favourite faced a depleted field with three non-runners and had to wait behind rivals early as William Buick anchored him under cover. Picking up impressively to take control approaching the...

Night Of Thunder's Desert Flower Secures TDN Rising Star Tag at Newmarket

Newmarket's G1 July Cup card began in style when Godolphin's hitherto unraced Desert Flower (Ire) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}--Promising Run, by Hard Spun) powered away from nine rivals to earn a 'TDN Rising Star' rosette in Saturday's £21,000 Rossdales British EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes over seven furlongs. The homebred daughter of four-time Group 2 victrix Promising Run (Hard Spun) was a touch hesitant at the break and chased the leaders in fourth through the initial fractions. Arabian Crown Camp Eyeing Great Voltigeur as a Likely Starting Point

Group winner Arabian Crown (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}) is recovering well from his spring setback that ruled him out of early Classic contention, and trainer Charlie Appleby has penciled in the G2 Great Voltigeur on Aug. 21 as a likely starting point. The Godolphin runner, successful in the Listed Stonehenge Stakes and G3 Zetland Stakes at two, claimed Sandown's G3 Classic Trial Stakes by 3 1/4 lengths in April. He sustained his setback in mid-May and has been recovering in the interim. "He's very much on the comeback trail and it...

Dubawi's Ancient Wisdom Regains Winning Thread at Newmarket

Godolphin's 'TDN Rising Star' and G1 Futurity Trophy hero Ancient Wisdom (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}--Golden Valentine {Fr}, by Dalakhani {Ire}) had yet to fire on all cylinders this year and bounced back from an eighth in last month's G1 Derby to regain the winning thread in Thursday's G3 Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket. The 6-4 favourite went forward to assume control after the initial strides of this 13-furlong test. Holding sway thereafter, he was asked to stretch with three furlongs remaining and kept finding for pressure inside the final quarter-mile to comfortably...

International Demand for Godolphin Mares

NEWMARKET, UK--The heavy rainfall that swept across Park Paddocks in the afternoon played its part in packing out the sale ring as people took cover, but so too did the Godolphin draft. Cinderella's Dream (GB) (Shamardal), who lost her undefeated record when beaten just over four lengths into seventh in the G1 QIPCO 1000 Guineas at Newmarket May 5, atoned for that defeat in no uncertain terms, flashing home powerfully through the final furlong to take out Saturday's GI Fasig-Tipton Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes at Aqueduct. With fellow once-beaten She Feels Pretty (Karakontie {Jpn}) taking the lion's share of the pari-mutuel activity at odds of 4-5, Cinderella's Dream was a relatively generous 7-2 at the off and was content to take back...
