The Saratoga Conversation: Frank Mirahmadi

All Frank Mirahmadi has ever wanted to do was be at the racetrack, so he is living his best life as the track announcer at Saratoga Race Course. He is also the main man at Santa Anita in California. He has called big names and has called races as big names. One time he called a race using 23 different voices. Oh, and he was once on "The Price is Right." And he loves pizza. Here is The Saratoga Conversation. TDN: I've heard talk about the sightlines at Saratoga not...

Letter To The Editor: From A Young Fan

My first race was two years ago. The 2021 Haskell Invitational S., the summer before my senior year of college. It was the post parade that hooked me. When "Born to Run" sounded through the grandstand as Mandaloun, Hot Rod Charlie and Midnight Bourbon bounced onto the track, it didn't matter how the race would go. I was in. It was enough to latch onto despite the outrage I felt towards my home-state regulators for an ill-advised whip rule that took down Midnight Bourbon, along with my exacta box. But...

Week In Review: Another Milestone For Kentucky Downs

Another record was set Saturday at Kentucky Downs when $21,065,982 was wagered on the 12-race card. Perhaps even more impressively, Kentucky Downs out-handled Del Mar, where $19,423,928 was bet. Del Mar ran 11 races on Saturday. That a wagering record was set was hardly a surprise considering that the card at Kentucky Downs was also the best ever offered at the sport's most unique racetrack. There were six graded stakes on the card and five of them were worth $1 million. The average field size was 11, the type of...
