Confirmed EHV Case At Gulfstream Park

Gulfstream Park confirmed Sunday a case of EHV on grounds in Barn 21. "On Jan. 21, Gulfstream Park identified a horse who was displaying signs of EHV," the track said in a statement. "That horse was immediately transferred to Rood & Riddle Veterinary Hospital in Wellington and the affected barn, barn 21 was placed in immediate quarantine. Testing was expedited through the Frederick Diagnostic Laboratory in Maryland which confirmed a positive EHV. Barn 21 remains in strict lockdown as per GSP protocols. Memorial Service For Angel Penna, Jr. at Gulfstream

Angel Penna, Jr. will be remembered Saturday during an 11:30 a.m. memorial service in the winner's circle at Gulfstream Park. Penna, the son of Hall of Fame trainer Angel Penna Sr., will be honored on the same day Gulfstream plays host to the Via Borghese, a race named after one of Penna's many graded-stakes winners. New Vocations Launches Florida Facility

New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program has opened a satellite facility near Ocala, Florida as it continues to expand its aftercare efforts. The nation's oldest and largest racehorse adoption charity now has nine facilities in six states. Harry Benson Passes Away

Trainer Harry Benson, former president of the Florida Horsemen's Benevolent & Protective Association (FHBPA) and a multiple graded stakes-winning trainer, passed away Friday morning at age 88. Funeral services are pending. Benson saddled more than 500 winners over his six-decade career, including MGSW Proud Man. As president of the FHBPA, Benson was passionate regarding winter race dates between Gulfstream and Hialeah Park and led several caravans to Tallahassee to protest bills regarding Thoroughbred issues.
