Brunacini Springs the Upset in Perryville

From high to low and then back to a high, Luan Machado and Brunacini (Dortmund) sprung a 28-1 shocker over Book'em Danno (Bucchero) Saturday afternoon at Keeneland in the GIII Perryville Stakes. Brunacini came into the race as an also-eligible with two starts to his name. The chestnut son of Dortmund was a first-out winner July 28 at Ellis Park, but faded to fifth late in the lane Sept. 19 at Churchill Downs when attempting to take a first-level allowance field gate-to-wire. Dortmund Passes Away in Korea

MGISW Dortmund (Big Brown--Our Josephina, by Tale of the Cat) passed away at Korea's Great Hill Farm Apr. 18 due to a small bowel torsion, the farm reported on Instagram Thursday. Dortmund won his first six starts for Kaleem Shah and trainer Bob Baffert, including the 2015 GI Santa Anita Derby and 2014 GI Los Alamitos Futurity. The hulking chestnut was the bettors' second choice in the 2015 GI Kentucky Derby behind his stablemate American Pharoah. Dortmund Meeting Kicks Off German Racing on May 4

Dortmund Racecourse will hold the first German race meeting since the coronavirus halted racing in that country earlier this year, Galopponline.de reported on Thursday. Racing was originally scheduled to resume on May 1, but government regulations have prevented three meetings-Hannover (May 1), Mannheim (May 2) and Cologne (May 3) from going forward.
