Middle Park Glory For Ardad's Perfect Power

Saturday's G1 Juddmonte Middle Park S. at Newmarket looked a tight affair on paper and although there were just 1 3/4 lengths covering the first seven home, there was ultimately a degree of comfort in the victory of the G1 Prix Morny hero Perfect Power (Ire) (Ardad {Ire}). Freshened up since his success for Christophe Soumillon in the Morny over this six-furlong trip at Deauville Aug. 22, the Richard Fahey-trained bay was one of the last to play his hand under that rider but was a cosy half-length winner from...

Soumillon To Ride Tarnawa In Arc

Christophe Soumillon will be reunited with the Aga Khan's Tarnawa (Ire) (Shamardal) in the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Oct. 3. Soumillon, the Aga Khan's retained rider in France, was aboard Tarnawa for wins in last year's G1 Prix Vermeille and G1 Prix de l'Opera, but was replaced last minute by Colin Keane for Tarnawa's victory in the GI Breeders' Cup Turf at Keeneland after testing positive for Covid-19. Keane was in the saddle for Tarnawa's comeback score in the G3 Ballyroan S. on Aug. 5 and for...

Ardad's Perfect Power Battles To Prix Morny Glory

Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum's 2-year-old colt Perfect Power (Ire) (Ardad {Ire}) became the first stakes winner for his freshman sire (by Kodiac {GB}) when plundering Royal Ascot's June 17 G2 Norfolk S. and, despite a blip when fifth in last month's July 29 G2 Richmond S. at Goodwood, notched another first for the Overbury Stud incumbent with a decisive victory in Sunday's G1 Darley Prix Morny at Deauville, a "Win And You're In" for the GII Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at Del Mar in November. Adaay's Have A Good Day Strikes For Cabourg Triumph

Theresa Marnane's 2-year-old filly Have A Good Day (Ire) (Adaay {Ire}) went postward for Tuesday's G3 Darley Prix de Cabourg at Deauville returning off a fifth to the reopposing Dizzy Bizu (Ire) (Caravaggio) in Chantilly's June 6 Listed Prix La Fleche and exacted revenge on that rival as fillies dominated the six-furlong test. The February-foaled bay had opened up with five-furlong wins at Chantilly and Lyon-Parilly in April before slipping to second when upped to six furlongs for a May 28 conditions heat at Angers in her penultimate start. Have...

Sent to Sunday's G2 Prix de Sandringham at Chantilly having won the Listed Prix des Lilas over the same course and mile trip May 11, Ecurie Jean-Louis Bouchard and Gerard Augustin-Normand's Tahlie (Fr) (Rio de la Plata) proved up to the task to prevail in a tussle with Kennella (Fr) (Kendargent {Fr}). Distorted Humor's Ebaiyra On Top at Saint-Cloud

His Highness The Aga Khan's 4-year-old filly Ebaiyra (Distorted Humor) made light of a seven-month absence to collar Raabihah (Sea the Stars {Ire}) by a neck in the May 2 G3 Prix Allez France Longines at ParisLongchamp on seasonal return and doubled up on that rival in Wednesday's G2 Prix Corrida at Saint-Cloud. Her sophomore campaign highlight reel also includes victories in the G2 Prix de Pomone and G3 Prix de Royaumont, as well as a sixth-place effort in last year's G1 Prix de Diane, and she claimed a fourth...

Wootton Bassett's Incarville Wins Saint-Alary Thriller

Monday's G1 Saxon Warrior Coolmore Prix Saint-Alary had a wide-open feel beforehand and that was reflected in the finish with less than a length separating the first four home in the ParisLongchamp feature. In the event, it was Gerard Augustin-Normand's Incarville (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) who prevailed in a three-way photo with Cirona (GB) (Maxios {GB}) and Es La Vida (Ger) (Soldier Hollow {GB}) as TDN Rising Star Sibila Spain (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) was a close-up fourth and possibly unlucky. Runner-up in the 10 1/2-furlong G3 Prix Cleopatre at Saint-Cloud...

Bated Breath's Makaloun Annexes The Prix de Guiche

His Highness The Aga Khan's Makaloun (Fr) (Bated Breath {GB}) suffered the only reverse of a five-race freshman campaign when a close third over 10 furlongs in a hot renewal of October's G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud and bounced back in style to garner Tuesday's G3 Prix de Guiche, dropping down in trip on seasonal return, at Chantilly. Last term's Listed Criterium du Fonds Europeen de l'Elevage and G3 Prix de Conde victor went postward as the 23-10 second choice--for a heat won by Lawman (Fr) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) and Almanzor...

Shamardal's Tarnawa Reigns Supreme In the Opera

Having won the G1 Prix Vermeille on a quick surface over ParisLongchamp's 12 furlongs last time Sept. 13, The Aga Khan's Tarnawa (Ire) (Shamardal) had to deal with the other extreme and a drop back to 10 furlongs on Sunday but proved up to the task in the G1 Prix de l'Opera Longines. Held up towards the rear early by a confident Christophe Soumillon, the 3-1 shot was brought with her customary withering run down the outer to deny Alpine Star (Ire) (Sea the Moon {Ger}) in the final strides...
