Hogan, Agent, second a Kantharos yearling filly consigned by Hill 'N' Dale Sales Agency, Agent and Blurricane (Rebellion {GB}), a stakes-winning broodmare by Rebellion (GB) consigned by Ballycroy Bloodstock, Agent for Ken Lee, Dennis Mitchell and Dan and Gaye Bell. Gaughan Becomes Independent Chair of Ontario Racing Board of Directors

Andrew Gaughan has been appointed the next Independent Chair of the Ontario Racing Board of Directors. Jamie Martin will be an Executive Consultant to the board. Cape Canaveral Passes Away at 26

GSW Cape Canaveral (Mr. Prospector--Seaside Attraction, by Seattle Slew) passed away at age 26 at Highfield Stock Farm in Canada, where he stood for 14 years. Effective Monday, July 18, 2022, purses at Assiniboia Downs have been increased across the board. Eugene Melnyk Passes Away at 62

Eugene Melnyk, the owner of the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League and a prominent horse owner and breeder who was a member of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame, has passed away at age 62. The Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Alberta Division) outlined the new Mare Recruitment Program (MRP) offering incentives to mare owners who bring an in-foal mare to Alberta to foal in 2022. The criteria for the MRP program are: Breeders will receive a C$750 incentive for each in-foal mare brought to Alberta. The in-foal mare must not have foaled in Alberta in 2020-21. Number of Graded Stakes in Canada Decreased

The Jockey Club of Canada's Graded Stakes Committee held its annual review of the graded and listed stakes races in Canada and the number of graded stakes in Canada will decrease to 40. The decrease is due partially to individual racetracks choosing to place selected races on hold for the 2022 season and other races that have felt the repercussions of the pandemic.
