Amo Racing's €1-Million Arqana Breezer Angelo Buonarroti Graduates in York's Convivial Maiden

Amo Racing's Angelo Buonarroti (Justify--Curlylocks {Ire}, by Galileo {Ire}) was the second highest-priced lot when selling for €1-million at Arqana's Breeze-Up sale earlier this year and went some way to justifying that lofty price tag with a breakthrough success in Friday's British Stallion Studs EBF Convivial Maiden Stakes at York. The February-foaled chestnut, who first went through the ring for $135,000 as a Keeneland September yearling, was initially trained by Dominic Ffrench Davis, but was transferred to the Raphael Freire yard before posting a three-length debut ninth when highly tried...

Letters to the Editor: Carl McEntee

Good Morning, It's not often that I feel compelled to write, but in this case the sensitivity and poise by which Chris McGrath addressed the passing of Sheihk Hamdan was truly skillful. The world of horse racing, and for that matter, breeding, has been dealt a huge blow with the passing of both Sheikh Hamdan and Prince Khalid. As Chris so poignantly mentioned, we have taken for granted the impact both men had on our industry on a global scale, and the thought of a world in which racing will...

Nothhaft Living the Life He Imagined

Hank Nothhaft was a veteran CEO in Silicon Valley when he decided he needed to make a plan for the next phase of his life. A self-described "serial entrepreneur," he picked horse racing and now, over a decade later, he is retired from the business world and spending most of his time working on his racing and breeding operation. Through the Ballysax Bloodstock consignment, Nothhaft will offer a colt by Tapit out of the owner's most successful racehorse to date, multiple graded stakes winner Living the Life (Ire) (Footstepsinthesand {GB})...

How 'Dennis' Jump Started Ballysax

Call it seizing the moment. Carl McEntee's very first Saratoga consignment, just a couple of weeks after hanging out a shiny new Ballysax board at the July Sale in Lexington. A consignment, admittedly, comprising of a single Tiznow colt. "Obviously everyone wants to take a yearling to Saratoga," McEntee says. "And it's very simple to say, 'Let's take this Tapit up there, or this War Front, this Pharoah.' Great, if you have those horses. At that stage, in a fledgling company that'd been going six months, I didn't have clientele...
