Arcangelo Works Ahead of Travers

Blue Rose Farm's Arcangelo (Arrogate) posted a five-furlong breeze in 1:01.63 over the Saratoga's main track under Javier Castellano in preparation for the Aug. 26 GI Travers S. Trainer Jena Antonucci said she was pleased with the GI Belmont S. winner's work, which served as a maintenance breeze after he covered the same distance in 1:00.21 on Aug. 6. "It went super. It was everything we were looking for," Antonucci said. "The big heavy lifting was in the prior work, so we'll just keep his feet on the ground for...

Flameaway's Dreamfyre Sizzles in Sorrento

Dreamfyre (f, 2, Flameaway--Appreciating, by Sky Mesa) may not have been the GIII Sorrento S. favorite behind 'TDN Rising Star' Benedetta (City of Light) and flashy Baffert/Zedan runner Dua (Arrogate), but she ran like it, controlling the 2-year-old filly contest from pillar to post. In Del Mar's co-feature Saturday, Dreamfyre broke like a shot from the inside post and immediately put daylight on the rest, clicking off early fractions in :21.74 and :45.10. Benedetta and Dua followed with the rest of the field stretched out well behind. Coming off the...

Seize the Grey Rebounds To Capture Spa Maiden

by Bill Finley & J. N. Campbell Seize the Grey (Arrogate) didn't show a thing in his debut, a July 1 maiden special weight race at Ellis Park. Trained by Hall of Famer Wayne Lukas and a $300,000 purchase at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale as a yearling, he beat just one horse and lost by 17 1/4 lengths. So it was no surprise when he was sent off at 16-1, a price that looked about right considering the competition he was set to face in Saturday's seventh race at Saratoga,...
