Ireland's Agriculture Minister Addresses “Distressing” Scenes In RTE Documentary

Horse Racing Ireland said it is "deeply shocked and appalled" by the footage of animal abuse shown in an RTE Investigates programme that was broadcast on Wednesday evening while Ireland's Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue said those responsible for the alleged mistreatment of horses will face the "full rigour of the law". Straffan Horse Abattoir Expected To Be The Focus Of RTE Special Report

A special report is set to be broadcast on RTE One and RTE Player on Wednesday, June 12, focusing on what happens to racehorses upon their retirement. BHA Supports Investigation Into Abattoir Images Displayed in Panorama Programme

Following the broadcasting of the BBC's programme Panorama: The Dark Side of Horse Racing on Monday evening, the British Horseracing Authority announced its support to investigate the images of horses being euthanized in situations which may have harmed their welfare. In addition, several leaders from the British racing industry including the BHA, as well as the Horse Welfare Board will be meeting to discuss further issues raised by the Panorama programme on Tuesday.
