Street Cry's Winx wins Epsom with ease

Winx and Hugh Bowman | Racing and Sports

Patience has once again paid off for Sydney's champion trainer Chris Waller, whose long-term project Winx extended her win streak to four–including two Group 1s–in Saturday's prestigious G1 Epsom H. Winx showed immense promise when winning her first three races on the bounce last year–including the G2 Furious S. over subsequent G1 Blue Diamond S. winner Earthquake (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus})–but did not see the winner's circle again for another six months, when she took Rosehill's G2 Phar Lap S. in March. Off the board two weeks later in the G1 Vinery Stud S., she bounced back to be second in the G1 Australian Oaks Apr. 11. Winx kicked off her win streak in the G3 Sunshine Coast Guineas May 16, she added the G1 Queensland Oaks two weeks later and made her 4-year-old debut a winning one with a score in the G2 Theo Marks S. back in Sydney at Rosehill Sept. 12. Caught three wide through the early running yesterday, Winx and jockey Hugh Bowman were forced wider yet as the field swung off the turn, but the filly responded when finding daylight at the 200 meter mark and powered clear to win with extreme ease.
