Speightstown's Impulse Buy Romps to 'Rising Star' Honors at Keeneland

Impulse Buy | Coady Media

WinStar Farm homebred Impulse Buy (f, 2, Speightstown–Jojo Warrior, by Pioneerof the Nile), a debut second behind her Rodolphe Brisset-trained stablemate Liam in the Dust (Liam's Map) at Ellis Park Aug. 11, graduated in style with a 'TDN Rising Star' performance at second asking at Keeneland Saturday.

The 5-2 chance shot out to the front and sped through an opening quarter in :22.11. She traveled nicely around the far turn, kicked for home as the one to catch and dropped the hammer from there to win by an eye-catching 11 lengths. Quantum Burst (Munnings) was second.

Impulse Buy becomes the 26th 'Rising Star' for the late leading sire Speightstown, who was euthanized late last year.

The aforementioned Liam in the Dust was a game second in the GIII Pocahontas Stakes Sept. 14 and finished off the board in Friday's opening day feature GI Darley Alcibiades Stakes.

The winner's dam Jojo Warrior, a half-sister to GISW A Z Warrior (Bernardini) and winner of the 2014 GII Summertime Oaks and GIII Torrey Pines Stakes, had a colt by Nashville this year and was bred back to Americanrevolution.

3rd-Keeneland, $100,000, Msw, 10-5, 2yo, f, 7f, 1:23.05, ft, 11 lengths.
