Shaishee Up to Take the Mahab Al Shimaal

Following a formative period with Charlie Hills in Lambourn, Shaishee flourished in the desert for Musabah Al Muhairi and earned a first black-type placing when third in the Listed Jebel Ali Sprint over five furlongs last March. Enjoying two straight successes over seven and eight furlongs when campaigned here in the winter, the dark bay went on to be fifth in the G2 Al Fahidi Fort over the former trip Jan. 22 before filling the same spot in the G3 Al Shindagha Sprint dropped to this distance Feb. 12. Slowly away when third behind Mashaaref in a handicap over another panel a fortnight later, he broke more professionally this time from his outside post but was soon finding the pace too hot and had only one behind as he began the turn. Responding to pressure to close on Speed Hawk and gain the lead with 100 yards remaining, Shaishee asserted in the drive to the line as United Color found his stride too late.

The 2012 and 2013 winners of the Mahab Al Shimaal, Krypton Factor (GB) (Kyllachy {GB})–who was fifth here–and Reynaldothewizard (Speightstown) went on to win the G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen on the Dubai World Cup card, and trainer Musahab Al Muhairi–who won the G3 Burj Nahaar with Tamarkuz (Speightstown) two races later and also won Friday's Listed Jebel Ali Sprint with Muarrab (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB})–said that will be the target for Shaishee.
“He had not been at his very best recently,” Al Muhairi explained. “We will have to take Shaishee for the Dubai Golden Shaheen now and Muarrab could also run in that, although we have the option of the [G1] Al Quoz Sprint with him.”
