Shadwell's Muhimma Streaks To 'Rising Star' Tag In Churchill Debut

Muhimma | Coady Media

A $700,000 daughter of Munnings, Muhimma ran to the billing Friday, streaking home the easiest of winners at Churchill Downs as the 4-5 favorite for Shadwell Stables and trainer Brad Cox.

Outrun only by one of the only runners in the field with prior experience in My Lil Punky (Outwork), Muhimma was content to let that rival handle the tempo up the backstretch, sitting second through fractions of :22.36 and :45.11. Moving under her own devices under a motionless Florent Geroux, the favorite cruised up along the outside of the leader and went right on by at the quarter pole, coming home with just hands and heels to win at first asking by 7 1/2 lengths in a good final time of 1:15.55.

The 12th 'TDN Rising Star' for Coolmore's Munnings, Muhimma is the second foal and second winner out of SW/GISP Princesa Carolina (Tapit) who saw her Gun Runner yearling bring $2.2m to Whisper Hill Farm just last week at KEESEP. Second dam MGISW Pure Clan sold herself for $4.5m to Borges Torrealba Holdings in 2012 at KEENOV. Muhimma is the second 'Rising Star' produced by the cross of Munnings over a Tapit mare, the first being GSP Sun Path. Princesa Carolina reported another Gun Runner this year and returned yet again to the Three Chimneys star for 2025.
