Rushing Fall Completes Banner Opening Weekend for Brown

e Five Racing's GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf heroine and 'TDN Rising Star' Rushing Fall (More Than Ready) gave trainer Chad Brown his third graded stakes success with a 3-year-old in as many days of the young Keeneland meet Sunday, notching a convincing victory in her return to action in the GIII Appalachian S. over a yielding turf course. Never far back, she turned back a menacing bid from fellow 'Rising Star' Daddy Is a Legend (Scat Daddy) in upper stretch and bounded clear to remain unbeaten in four career starts.

“We just wanted to get her season started and see where we're at,” Brown said. “I'm very pleased with the result. There are several options we're thinking about, and over the next month we'll figure out our next move.”

Rushing Fall's win was the sixth for Brown in the first three days of the Keeneland meet, having captured the opening day GIII Kentucky Utilities Transylvania S. with unbeaten 'TDN Rising Star' Analyze It (Point of Entry) and three races Saturday, topped by champion Good Magic (Curlin)'s victory in the GII Toyota Blue Grass S. Brown won a high-level turf allowance earlier in the day Sunday with Offering Plan (Spring at Last).

Rushing Fall broke alertly and settled into stride in the clear in fourth behind a half-mile in :49.91. Kept well in reserve by jockey Javier Castellano heading into the far turn, she was asked for more as Daddy Is a Legend and Goodthingstaketime (Ire) (Canford Cliffs {Ire}) ranged up to her outside, but she quickly shut the door on that pair and edged clear smoothly. Thewayiam (Fr) (Thewayyouare), who swept all three of Gulfstream Park's major stakes for sophomore filly turfers, closed good ground to complete the exacta while never truly threatening the winner.

“She was very comfortable rating,” Castellano said of Rushing Fall. “I know the pace was slow today. I didn't expect her to be too close to the pace, but the way the race unfolded, I took it from there. She was much the best. She's one of the best fillies I've ridden in my career. I'm thankful to be part of the team.”

A first-out winner at Belmont Sept. 16, the bay easily annexed the GIII J.P. Morgan Chase Jessamine S. at Keeneland over a similarly soft turf course Oct. 11 and used that effort as a springboard towards her 3/4-length victory at the World Championships over far firmer ground. She was given a freshening following that performance and returned to the worktab in mid-February at Brown's Palm Meadows base.

When asked about his success on opening weekend and what the coming weeks held in store for his barn, Brown said he would be back and forth between Keeneland and his New York base.

“We did well,” Brown said. “I'm just really grateful that we have the horses good enough to compete at Keeneland each spring. My staff really deserves all the credit. It's been a long winter waiting. You get anxious and you want to run them but you have to be patient and plan their campaigns. Keeneland is a good spot to start some of them…I love it here. If I can stay, I will. Sometimes duty calls and I have to go back to my other division at Belmont, my home base. Not sure, but I'll be around.”

Pedigree Notes:

Rushing Fall is a half to stakes winner and three-time graded stakes-placed Milam (Street Sense), as well as Homecoming Dance (Vindication)–herself the dam of this year's Damon Runyon S. winner Empire Line (Morning Line).
