MOMOS (c, 3, Distorted Humor–Inspeight of Us, by Speightstown), making his first start since a troubled seventh in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at Keeneland in November, was there for the taking in the final sixteenth of a mile, but he called upon his class to post a gritty neck success. Sent off the 3-5 chalk in receipt of Lasix for the first time in his career and getting blinkers off, the $75,000 OBS Winter Mixed yearling turned $180,000 OBS March breezer showed a quick first step and led early, but was joined to his outside by 8-5 second pick Latin Casino (Liam's Map) for the run to the turn. American Gentleman (American Pharoah) made it a line of three after a half in :45.40 over a drying-out strip and the favorite looked in deep water, but he continued to find down along the fence and refused to allow Latin Casino to get on terms. Named a 'Rising Star' off a smart, front-running debut victory at Saratoga last July, Momos was a battling third to Jackie's Warrior (Maclean's Music) in the GII Saratoga Special S. the following month. Momos held well to finish a close third trying the turf for the first time in the GIII Futurity S. at Belmont in October and his Breeders' Cup effort is better than it might look on paper, as he was checked badly nearing the turn, then kept on to finish 5 1/4 lengths behind the outposted Golden Pal (Uncle Mo). Momos is out of a daughter of SW & GSP Miss Hot Salsa (Houston), the dam of GISW turf router Daddys Lil Darling (Scat Daddy) and GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint upsetter Mongolian Saturday (Any Given Saturday), a paternal grandson of Distorted Humor. Inspeight of Us's 2-year-old of this year, a filly by Empire Maker, was a $75,000 Keeneland November weanling who fetched $210,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Sale two weeks ago. She is also the dam of a yearling Hard Spun colt and a colt foal by Audible. Sales history: $75,000 Ylg '19 OBSWIN; $180,000 2yo '20 OBSMAR. Lifetime Record: MGSP, 5-2-0-2, $109,600.
