Rising Star Back to Slipper Favoritism

'TDN Rising Star' Vancouver (Aus) (Medaglia d'Oro) was promoted once again to the top of the betting market for the Mar. 21 G1 Golden Slipper after running away with yesterday's G2 Todman S. at Randwick, a traditional Slipper lead-up race for colts. Racing on near even terms with Godolphin's Furnaces (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) with former Slipper favorite Headwater (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) to his outside, Vancouver grabbed the lead passing the 300 meter mark and drew away to score by almost 3 1/2 lengths from Furnaces, with Headwater another two lengths back in third. Vancouver is now the 2-1 favorite for the Slipper, while Furnaces and Headwater both dropped to 10-1. Another'TDN Rising Star', Godolphin's Ottoman (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}), sits at 16-1 in the betting after finishing second after traveling wide in the G2 Reisling S. for fillies one race earlier.

Vancouver's victory was part of a big day for trainer Gai Waterhouse: she took both Slipper preps–with English (Aus) (Encosta de Lago {Aus}) winning the Reisling, and won Group 1s on two sides of the country: the Canterbury S. at Randwick with Cosmic Endeavour (Aus) (Northern Meteor {Aus}) and the Australian Guineas at Flemington with Wandjina (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}). Waterhouse also saddled yesterday's Listed Fireball S. winner Nayeli (Aus) (More Than Ready).
