Ringside with Mark McStay

1) What is your one essential to get you through the busy sales season?

A sense of humour and a comfortable pair of shoes!

2) Which stallion's first yearlings impressed you most this year?

I really liked the No Nay Nevers, they are very athletic and looked like they will be sharp 2-year-olds!

3) What horse springs to mind as your favourite purchase?

Miss Keller, a Montjeu filly who didn't sell in the ring as a yearling and I purchased her for 60,000gns privately afterwards. She won an Ulster Oaks for John Oxx in my mothers colours and then she went on to win the GI E.P. Taylor! A quirky filly with a lot of talent.

4) And finally, if you had to select one other agent to buy a horse for you. Who would it be and why?

There are a lot of very good judges out there, but for me it would have to be Dick O'Gorman. He's the ultimate professional, an excellent judge and I've been very lucky to have learned an awful lot from him over the last 10 years working alongside him.
