Red Cadeaux Will Run in the G1 Queen Elizabeth S.

Ed Dunlop will keep Red Cadeaux (GB) (Cadeaux Genereux {GB}) over a mile and a quarter after declaring his entry in the G1 Longines Queen Elizabeth S. at Randwick Saturday, Apr. 11. The Newmarket handler had been considering letting the three-time G1 Melbourne Cup runner-up contest the G1 Schweppes Sydney Cup over two miles on the same card. However, due to a prolonged wet spell at the track turning the ground soft, Dunlop has opted to instead run the 9-year-old in the 10 furlong contest. It will be the second race in succession that Red Cadeaux has run over the trip after finishing fifth in the  G1 Australian Cup at Flemington last month.

“The excellent Kerrin McEvoy will ride as Hugh Bowman is set to partner Lucia Valentina (NZ),” Dulop posted on his website. “The weather has been the overriding factor in our decision, with Sydney having experienced an extremely wet week. Obviously Contributer (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire})and Adelaide (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) will be tough to beat, but the Sydney Cup is a vintage renewal in itself with Protectionist (Ger) (Monsun {Ger}), Who Shot Thebarman (NZ)(Yamanin Vital {NZ}) and the well-weighted Hartnell (GB) (Authorized {Ire}) in the line-up. Hopefully we have made the right call.”
