Mohammed Al Shahi's 2-year-old filly Wed (Fr) (Profitable {Ire}–Eaton Street {GB}, by Discreet Cat) snagged two of three prior outings and continued on an upward trajectory with a decisive success in Saturday's G2 Prix du Calvados at Deauville. The Maurizio Guarnieri trainee debuted with a June 17 win at La Teste de Buch before running second over the same seven-furlong strip back there the following month and lined up for her first black-type start returning off an impressive 4 1/2-length tally at Dax last week. The 13-2 chance was handily placed in sixth after the opening exchanges of this third straight attempt at the seven-furlong distance. Taking closer order once past halfway, she was ridden to launch her challenge passing the quarter-mile marker and extended clear under continued urging inside the final furlong to hit the line with a two-length advantage from Sparkling Beauty (Fr) (Oasis Dream {GB}).

“She is a lovely filly and I was confident she would run a great race,” said trainer Maurizio Guarnieri. “That's not to say that I was sure she'd win, but sure of a good performance. She has improved and become more and more professional with every run. She is not entered in the [G1 Prix Marcel] Boussac and I will discuss her future with the owner. Before she ran at Dax, I told him that if she wins easily we would go to Deauville. Now that she has won easily in Deauville, we shall see what the future holds in store.”

Wed, who becomes the third pattern-race and an overall sixth black-type winner for her sire (by Invincible Spirit {Ire}), is the latest of four foals and second scorer produced by an unraced granddaughter of G1 Irish Oaks heroine Helen Street (GB) (Troy {GB}). Her second dam River Street (GB) (Machiavellian) is a full-sister to the G1 Dubai World Cup-winning sire Street Cry (Ire). Descendants of the April-foaled dark bay's third dam Helen Street also include elite-level winning sires Shamardal (Giant's Causeway) and Victor Ludorum (GB) (Shamardal).
