Pharoah Exits Work Well, Ready for Spa Trip

American Pharoah | Sarah K Andrew

Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) exited his work Sunday morning in fine form, according to trainer Bob Baffert. The seven furlong work at Del Mar, which the Zayat homebred completed in 1:23.20, was American Pharoah's final tune up before Saturday's GI Travers S. at Saratoga.

“He looks great today,” Baffert said Monday. “He was happy and he came out of it really well. He got new shoes today. He's got his new Nikes on, so he's ready. We're getting really excited about it. It's going to be fun. He's doing well, and we just loved the way he worked. It's pretty amazing the way he's just held his form, and he looks great.”

American Pharoah is scheduled to arrive in Saratoga Wednesday accompanied by Baffert's assistant Jimmy Barnes. He will be stabled in trainer John Terranova's barn for the duration of his stay in Saratoga.

“We're ready,” Terranova said. “We're thrilled he's coming. It's going to be a lot of fun and, hopefully, everything goes well, he ships in healthy and safe and we get another chance at seeing the super horse around us.”
