Palmer Makes Two-Race Plan For Love

Trainer Hugo Palmer | Racing Post

Trainer Hugo Palmer is hoping to get two more runs into his stable star and G1 Irish Oaks winner Covert Love (Ire) (Azamour {Ire}) this year. The 3-year-old filly was last seen finishing second to Pleascach (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) in the G1 Yorkshire Oaks Aug. 20, her first race since her Classic score July 18 and her first loss in five starts since May.

Palmer said the targets for the remainder of the year are the G1 Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp Oct. 4, and the G1 British Champions Fillies & Mares S. at Ascot Oct. 17.

“All being well you'll certainly see her again this season,” said Palmer. “She looks a million dollars and I'm delighted with her work. The most obvious race for her is the Prix de l'Opera and then after that hopefully we'll be able to go to Ascot on Champions Day. If either of those two were to turn into a bog then we might have to think again, but that's the plan.”

He added, “The intention is to run in both because there is nothing for her in the early part of next season, so she can have a long break.”
