NY Gaming Commission Adopts New Out-of-Competition Rule

The New York State Gaming Commission unanimously passed an amendment to the Thoroughbred out-of-competition testing rule that acting executive director Robert Williams said ìadds several new blood-and gene-doping agents, including Cobalt. The proposal prohibits all substances that are capable of abnormally enhancing the oxygenation of body tissues. This is of particular import to safeguard to the health of horses and protect† the integrity of racing.î The announcement came at their Monday meeting.

At the meeting as well, the Commission's Dr. Scott Palmer said that PETA had provided
them with eight hours of video a 285-page report on trainer Steve Asmussen, which it said it did not give to Kentucky investigators. The commission said the New York investigation was complete and that the†report was being prepared. No details on a release date were given.
