In this continuing series, we take a look ahead at US-bred and/or conceived runners entered for the upcoming weekend at the tracks on the Japan Racing Association circuit, with a focus on pedigree and/or performance in the sales ring. Here are the horses of interest for this Saturday running at Hanshin and Nakayama Racecourses:
Saturday, March 7, 2020
6th-HSN, ¥13,830,000 ($131k), Allowance, 3yo, 1400mT
COMBAT MARCH (f, 3, Shackleford–Combat's Love, by Combat Ready) took them gate to wire to debut a two-length winner at 28-1 at this track Dec. 14 (video, gate 5) and gave an excellent account of herself when second in the Listed Kobai S. at Kyoto in January. She looked to struggle with a rain-affected track back at Kyoto last month and Yutaka Take sees fit to take the call. The gray filly cost just $2K as a Keeneland November weanling in 2017, but matured nicely into a $55K Fasig-Tipton October yearling. B-Jay Goodwin & Brian Foret (KY)
6th-NKY, ¥13,830,000 ($131k), Allowance, 3yo, 1200m
ISSHIN (c, 3, Take Charge Indy–Appealing Stella, by Closing Argument) finished a well-meant third on his six-furlong debut at Hanshin Dec. 14 ahead of a dominating eight-length maiden victory over the minimum 1000-metre trip at Kokura when last seen Jan. 25 (video, gate 11). Christophe Lemaire takes the call on the Florida-bred, a $15K KEENOV weanling, $32K KEESEP RNA and $100K OBS March breezer. B-Stonecliff Farm (FL)
