Not This Time's Cut The Dust Sparkles on Debut, New 'Rising Star' at Woodbine

Not This Time | Taylor Made Stallion/Amy Lanigan

Cut the Dust (Not This Time) ran a hole in the wind on this unveiling and cruised home to the easiest of victories, earning a 'TDN Rising Star' nod in the process.

Breaking well with the field and out to take command quickly, the chestnut was still in hand as he distanced himself from his rivals passing the three furlong pole after :22.48 and :45.29 splits. He had built up a six length lead turning for home and from there on, the question was how much he'd like to win by in the end. The 7-5 favorite came in to score impressively by 6 1/2 lengths in a final time of 1:03.68. Scorching (Mo Town) came on from fifth to claim second.

That clocking for Cut the Dust's effort was almost a second faster than what Mensa (Complexity) ran en route to winning the Victoria Stakes two races prior. This is Not This Time's fourth 'TDN Rising Star'.

The victor is the second to the races and second to get his picture taken for Embur's Zip, herself a daughter of Canadian champion older mare MGSW Embur's Song. That dam has since produced a yearling colt by Maclean's Music as well as a 2024 colt by Girvin.

In addition to that Canadian staple, this is also the extended female family of GI Preakness Stakes and GI Haskell Stakes hero Exaggerator (Curlin) by way of Embur's Song's half-sister, track-record setter SP Dawn Raid (Vindication).

5th-Woodbine, C$81,727, Msw, 7-19, 2yo, 5 1/2f (AWT), 1:03.68, ft, 6 1/2 lengths.
