Mischevious Alex Tops Deep Gotham

Mischevious Alex (Into Mischief) looks for his third straight stakes score in a loaded renewal of Saturday's GIII Gotham S. going a one-turn mile at the Big A.

The speedy bay, favored at 3-1 on the morning line for the Gotham, ran away by 9 3/4 lengths in his first attempt with blinkers added in the Parx Juvenile S. Nov. 5, then returned from the bench with another dazzling front-running performance in Gulfstream's GIII Swale S. Feb. 1. Both races were contested at seven furlongs.

“If he runs good in the Gotham, we'll have to try him two turns again to see how he handles it,” trainer John Servis said. “I think the [GII] Wood [Memorial Apr. 4] would be the most logical spot, but nothing is etched in stone. We have to get by Saturday first.”

Blowout debut winner Untitled (Khozan) lost all chance after getting roughed up at the start in the Swale and reported home fourth as the favorite, his first attempt for trainer Mark Casse off the private purchase by Gary Barber. He returned on short notice to finish a good second behind 'TDN Rising Star' Gouverneur Morris (Constitution) while trying two turns for the first time at Tampa Feb. 14.

Attachment Rate (Hard Spun) will look to capitalize off an anticipated hot pace following a flashy maiden win for trainer Dale Romans at third asking at this distance in the Gulfstream slop Feb. 15.

Local Jimmy Winkfield S. hero Montauk Traffic (Cross Traffic) rides a two-race winning streak while Sixto (Curlin) takes on winners for the first time following a promising debut score going six furlongs in South Ozone Park Jan. 30.

The Gotham will offer 50-20-10-5 qualifying points to the top four finishers towards the GI Kentucky Derby.
