The Minnesota Thoroughbred Association will host its annual MTA Yearling Sale Sunday, Sept. 8 at 5 p.m. at Canterbury Park's Expo Center in Shakopee, Minnesota. The catalogue may be found online here.
Sire power at the sale includes yearlings by Mucho Macho Man, Sky Mesa, Liaison, Big Blue Kitten, Street Sense, Tapiture, Temple City, Firing Line, Commissioner, Hard Spun, Revolutionary, and other established and young commercial sires.
The 50 yearlings will be stabled in the receiving barn at Canterbury Park, beginning Saturday, Sept. 7. Previews will be held in the receiving barn from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 10 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
“It is always exciting to attend this sale and see the future of racing in Minnesota,” said Kay King, Executive Director of the MTA. “The pedigrees are strong with interesting bloodlines. There is a lot of hard work and dedication that goes into getting Minnesota foals ready from the time they are born, to the time they are yearlings,” she added.
Several recent MTA Sale graduates have notable racing careers. Firstmate (Midshipman), was purchased at the 2016 sale and has earned more than $170,000. Ari Gia (Giacomo), was purchased for $5,000 at the 2015 sale and has earned more than $180,000 in earnings.
All but one yearling in the sale is a registered Minnesota-bred; hip 7 is a Kentucky-bred yearling by Summer Front.
