J Boys Echo, from the connections of the super impressive juvenile GSW Not This Time (Giant's Causeway), followed up a promising debut sprinting at Churchill with a blowout stretchout win at Keeneland to become the latest 'TDN Rising Star'. Breaking slowly in his unveiling Oct. 2 under the Twin Spires, the $485,000 KEESEP buy came with a strong late run into a slow pace to finish an eye-catching second. Bet down to 9-5 today off of that effort, the bay was away tardily once again, but recovered to track the pace along the rail from the second flight through a quarter of :24.27. Dropping back a bit past a :48.54 half, J Boys Echo was coaxed to advance passing three-quarters in 1:13.03, but found traffic trouble on the bottom half of the turn. Diving to the rail in early stretch, the favorite sped away once clear, showing a strong turn of foot to score a 5 1/2-length victory in 1:45.37. Big Bend (Union Rags) checked in second. The winner's dam captured the GII Forward Gal S. and foaled a Broken Vow filly this term before being bred to Speightstown. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $44,600.
