Jockey Melissa Iorio will undergo precautionary X-rays at the Monmouth Medical Center after being involved in a spill on Friday's opening race at Monmouth Park, the track announced via presser Friday.
Iorio was pitched forward and onto the track in Friday's opener when Summer Flower (Summer Front) stumbled at the start, and the jockey fell into the path of Me So Lucky (Madefromlucky) on the rail. Dr. Angelo Chinnici, Monmouth Park's medical director, reports that Iorio suffered “lacerations to the chin but there was no loss of consciousness”.
Her mount, Summer Flower, did not appear to suffer any injuries, according to trainer Mike Dini.
