Mei Ling Retired to Hill 'n' Dale Broodmare Band

Stakes winner and MGSP Mei Ling (Empire Maker–Lochinvar's Gold, by Seeking the Gold) has been retired from racing at the age of five and will join Hill 'n' Dale Farm's broodmare band, it was announced Friday. A $500,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase by Barry K. Schwartz, the bay mare took March's Heavenly Prize S. at Aqueduct. She also finished second in last November's GIII Go for Wand H. and April's GIII Top Flight H. for conditioner Todd Pletcher. “Mei Ling was unlucky not to be a Grade I performer, and she gave our family lots of thrills on the racetrack,” offered Schwartz. “We wish her well as a new member of the elite Hill 'n' Dale broodmare band.” Mei Ling retires with an overall race record of 22-4-8-4 and earnings of $522,383. Hill 'n' Dale president John Sikura added, “I love this pedigree. Mei Ling was a superior racemare and is a beautiful physical.” Mei Ling's dam is half to multiple Grade II-winning millionaire Master Command (A.P. Indy) from the family of Grade I/Group 1 winners La Gueriere, Icon Project, Allez France and Al Mamoon.
