Medaglia d'Oro Filly Hits the High Note in Spa Debut

Cantata | Sarah Andrew

Stonestreet Stable's Cantata (Medaglia d'Oro) became the newest 'TDN Rising Star' with an effortless-looking debut romp at Saratoga Sunday. Sent off the 6-5 favorite, the $950,000 KEESEP yearling purchase was content to let the two pacesetters go and settled in third. She inched closer entering the turn, stuck a head in front at top of the stretch and glided clear without being asked to win by 10 1/4 lengths. Nevisian Sunrise (War Front) was second and School of Thought (Empire Maker) was third. The time for the 6 1/2 furlongs was 1:18.12.

Cantata's stakes-winning dam Stoweshoe is a full-sister to Grade I-winner Taris and a half to multiple graded stakes placed Theatre Star (War Front). The mare was purchased by Rockbridge Bloodstock for $330,000 at the 2016 Fasig-Tipton February sale. She produced a filly by American Pharoah in 2019 and a colt by the Triple Crown winner this year before being bred back to Curlin.

Cantata runs in the colors of Barbara Banke's Stonestreet, which purchased her second dam Comedy (Theatrical {Ire}), in foal to Tapit, for $1.5 million at the 2015 Keeneland November sale. Comedy produced a colt by Medaglia d'Oro this year and was bred back to Curlin. Click for the Equibase.com chart or Equineline.com catalogue-style pedigree. VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
