In this new series we sit down with a selection of Europeans making a significant impression in the Thoroughbred industry on foreign shores. Today we have Aquis Farm's Brian McGuire.
Position: Racing & Bloodstock Manager for Aquis Farm.
Original Hometown: Listowel, Co. Kerry, Ireland.
Current Hometown: Sydney, Australia.
Thing you miss most about Ireland (not including family and friends): The weather! I haven't been to The Harvest Festival at my local track, Listowel, in a long time. It's always a great week for not only the local community but for everyone who visits. Festivals and events are the big ones.
Hidden Talent: Probably my Gaelic Football career!
Person in the industry you admire the most: John Magnier.
Three dinner guests: James Corden, A.P. McCoy, J.P. McManus.
Best thing about a career in the Thoroughbred industry: You never feel as if you're working, well–most of the time! It's a great industry to be part of.
Favourite racehorse: As a kid, I was a huge Istabraq (Ire) fan. During my time at Ciaron Maher Racing, I was fortunate enough to work closely with Merchant Navy (Aus) throughout his career–not only a top quality racehorse but such a cool dude as well.
Piece of advice for someone starting out: Travel and work hard. It's a fantastic industry that gives you a passport to travel the world. Work hard from a young age, do your job to the best of your ability and strive to be the best at what you do.
