Salvador Hernandez's GI Matriarch S. heroine La Tia (City Place) traveled five panels in 1:03.20–good for 13 of 36 at the distance–at Fair Grounds Saturday in preparation for her 6-year-old bow. The turf sprinter hails from the Armando De La Cerda barn and will possibly target the GII Buena Vista S. at Santa Anita Park Feb. 16, although a local start has not been ruled out. La Tia won the GIII Arlington Matron S. this past May and also posted victories in the GIII Ontario Matron S. in July. Fourth in the GI Beverly D. S. at Arlinton, she ran third in the GII Canadian S. and won the GIII Athenia S. at Belmont Park before her Matriarch score.
