Into Mischief 2yo Earns TDN Rising Star Badge in Debut

Shoplifted | Sarah Andrew

The more-fancied member of a 3-5 entry, Shoplifted (Into Mischief) came from off the pace to win in impressive style, earning 'TDN Rising Star' status in the process at Saratoga Saturday afternoon.

Favored along with the Todd Pletcher-trained Soviet (Super Saver), Shoplifted broke sharply and settled in the second flight, several lengths behind the leading duo of 7-2 chance Kowalski (Will Take Charge) and Always Misbehaving (Into Mischief) as they raced through an initial quarter in :22.18. Starting to take closer order as the pair carved out a half in :45.18, Shoplifted rounded into the home turn three wide, bore down on the leaders while under steady encouragement, swept past a game Kowalski passing midstretch and drew off late to win by an easy 4 1/2-length margin. Kowalski was 1 1/2 lengths head of the heavily bet Complexifier (Overanalyze), who rounded out the trifecta. Soviet broke slowly and closed well to be fourth.

Shoplifted, a $525,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase, flourished into an $800,000 buy after working an eighth in :10.1 at the Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Sale in March. The winner was produced by a winning half-sister to SW and Saratoga GSP Fifth Avenue (Monarchos) and to Shoppers Return (Put It Back), dam of the talented turf sprinter Imprimis (Broken Vow). This is also the family of Claiborne stallion Trappe Shot (Tapit). In addition to the winner, Shopit has a yearling colt by Graydar and filly by Central Banker from this year. She was bred back to Fast Anna.
