Indian Charlie Filly Kicks Things Off at Saratoga

A filly by the late Indian Charlie out of Alpine Garden (Lemon Drop Kid) fetched a final bid of $600,000 fromᅠBarry Irwin's Team Valor Internationalᅠto lead the early proceedings during Monday's first session of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Selected Yearling Sale in upstate New York. The Mar. 20 foal, consigned by Gainesway, agent, was bred by Peter Redekop, who campaigned Alpine Garden, one of the better racemares to emerge from Western Canada. Winless in five starts for trainer Fred Seitz in Kentucky, Alpine Garden won her maiden in her first start for Redekop at Woodbine and went on to race with success at Hastings and Northlands Park, with a victory in the GIII British Columbia Breeders' Cup Oaks, one of her four black-type wins. The Indian Charlie filly was purchased as a weanling for $185,000 by BGH Ranch at Keeneland November last fall.
