Golden Horde All Set for Champions Sprint S.

Clive Cox | Emma Berry

G1 Commonwealth Cup S. hero Golden Horde (Ire) (Lethal Force {Ire}) will make his next start in the G1 QIPCO Champions Sprint S. on Oct. 17, trainer Clive Cox announced on Monday. Third in the G1 Darley July Cup S. at Newmarket on July 11, the AlMohamediya Racing colourbearer was fifth in the G1 LARC Prix Maurice de Gheest on Aug. 9 and completed the trifecta in the G1 Betfair Sprint Cup S. at Haydock on Sept. 5.

“He'll most definitely go there,” said Cox. “That was definitely the worst ground he's run on, which means we have a very versatile performer that can perform on quicker or slower ground–and that is always pleasing.

“He ran a super race. He was drawn in the middle and he would have had to cross over some pretty well-used ground even on the outer track that hadn't been used as much. They'd had big fields on that side, and we opted to stay on the fresh ground where he was drawn.”

Cox also provided an update on G2 Qatar Richmond S. hero Supremacy (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}), who is on the mend after a setback. Originally slated for the G2 Gimcrack S., he scoped poorly and then also was out of the G1 Prix Morny due to the ground conditions. The Sept. 26 G1 Juddmonte Middle Park S. is the next target for the juvenile.

“He's in great form, and we are heading towards the Middle Park–that's his intended target at the end of the season,” said Cox. “It's just great he's another high-class 2-year-old performer [for us].
