The catalogue for books one and two of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale are online and include 1,062 yearlings for five days of selling. Book 1 takes place Jan. 10 to 13 and includes 853 lots, 37 more than last year, while the single-session Book 2 on Jan. 14 has 208 set to sell.
Arrowfield Stud, a perennial leading consignor, has 64 catalogued, including lot 35, a Redoute's Choice (Aus) granddaugter of Group 1 winner and excellent producer Alinghi (Aus) (Encosta de Lago {Aus}) who is also a half-sister to a pair of stakes-placed winners; lot 235, a Snitzel (Aus) filly out of dual Group 1 winner Response (Aus) (Charge Forward {Aus}) and therefore a half-sister to the stakes-placed Alter Call (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}); lot 731, a full-sister to G3 Widden S. winner Honesty Prevails (Aus) (Redoute's Choice {Aus}); and lot 733, a full-sister to Group 1 winner Sweet Idea (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}) and Group 2 winner Showtime (Aus).
Coolmore could enjoy a good result early in the sale with lot 74, a full-sister to Group 3 winner Dawn Wall (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) and a half to European Group 3 winners Osaila (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) and Obama Rule (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}). They are out of Mennetou (Ire) (Entrepreneur {Ire}), an unraced daughter of the Horse of the Year and G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Detroit (Riverman). Also representing Fastnet Rock in the Coolmore draft are lot 172, a colt out of Group 1 winner and stakes producer Pear Tart (Aus) (Dehere), and lot 515, a full-sister to Group 1 winner and stakes producer Irish Lights (Aus).
The Newgate consignment adds some international interest to the catalogue, as it includes a Sea the Stars (Ire) colt who is the first foal out of G1 Oakleigh Plate winner Shamal Wind (Aus) (Dubawi {Ire}) (lot 292) and a Tapit colt out of the graded placed Exclusive Love (Bernstein) (lot 706). Sun Stud also offers a Tapit, a half-sister to last year's GI Del Mar Futurity winner Klimt (Quality Road) (lot 831). Newgate also offers a colt by its first-season sire and Horse of the Year Dissident (Aus) who is a half-brother to a pair of group winners (lot 200), and a colt by another of its first-season sires, Deep Field (Aus), who is a half-brother to the Group 2-winning Toydini (Aus) (Bernardini).
Sires represented by their first yearlings are a truly international group of colonial stallions and shuttlers. In addition to Dissident and Deep Field, they include G1 Cox Plate winner Adelaide (Aus), Group 1-winning sprinter Brazen Beau (Aus), Group 1-winning milers Charm Spirit (Ire), Hallowed Crown (Aus), Olympic Glory (Ire), Shooting To Win (Aus), Toronado (Ire) and Wandjina (Aus), and the speedy The Wow Signal (Ire) and Rubick (Aus).
